DUNCAN FAMILY NOTES

The Duncan family has been in America since the early colonial period, in the mid 1600's, settling in Massachusetts. The earliest known Duncan was John, who was born in 1650 in Roxbury, MA and may have been the son of Samuel Dunkin of Boston and Newberry. John was known to be in Billerica, MA in 1675, according to the Duncan Genealogy of Charlotte D. Russell (Northville, NY), also, "John married Feb. 23, 1674-5, Johanna Jefts, daughter of Henry. He died of small-pox December 19, 1690. His widow married Benjamin Dutton and was killed by Indians, August 1, 1692, along with her oldest child Mary, 16, and her youngest child Benoni, 'son of her grief', less than two, born two months after his father's death."
