A transcript of Saratoga County cemeteries has a reference in St. John's in Greenfield for George C. Bentley. The transcript also refers to 1865 Civil War records that noted George as born in Vernon, NY on 12/24/1844, son of William & Ruth (Carver) Bentley. He died of diptheria on 2/7/1863 at Alexandria, VA. Vernon is about 4 miles from Verona, NY.

Via email, Edwin Bentley, a Bentley researcher, reported that the filmed book "Records of Births, Marriages & Deaths - Town of Greenfield, Saratoga Co. NY" had notes on page 59 for William S. Bentley, b. Northville, a cooper, son of John H. and Sarah (Wing) Bentley, married Nora F. Claydon. There were also notes for John Henry Bentley, son of William Henry Bentley and Ruth Carver. In 1875 NY State Census, Greenfield: John H. & family with father William Henry & 2nd wife Phebe E. That census also said that William Henry Bentley was born in Dutchess County, the son of John & Rachel (Crandell) Bentley.

  1. John Bentley (b in Dutchess Co., NY) m. Rachel Crandell.
    1. William Henry Bentley m1: Ruth Carver; m2: Phebe E. [Census: (NY 1875 Greenfield)?].
      1. John Henry Bentley, m1: Sarah Wing; m2: Nancy E. Sperbeck.
        1. William Seneca Bentley, a cooper, m. Nora Frances Claydon.

FamilySearch.org's AF has a reference: John Bentley, b. abt. 1781 Dutchess Co., NY, m. Rachel or Patience, 1 child: Maria, b. 6/16/1807, d. 1877.

The reference to William S. Bentley born in Northville may be for a different (AF) family: Elisha & Sarah M. (Huntoon) Bentley, children: Susanna (b. 1858), and William S. (b. 1860 Northampton, d. 1902 Carthage, Hancock, IL).
